1st International Professional Conference ProRoad Safety 2011, is successfully completed. ProRoad Safety Conference 2011 has clearly demonstrated that the Road Safety requires synergy among EDUCATION or DRIVER, INFRASTRUCTURE, VEHICLES and the ENVIRONMENT.
The experts emphasized that the biggest shortcoming is education. Children lear much about road safety in nursery, but when they enter primary and secondary schools, the intensity of road safety education dramatically decreases. It is therefore vital that we start with a systematic and hierarchical education of children and adolescents up to, and also after, their active involvement in the traffic.
They refered also to the problem of infrastructure which is insufficient for today's needs of users in Slovenia. It is also believed that public transport is insuficent or lacks stress – videlicit it is outdated and uncompatible with today's lifestyle.
The experts also considered that the technical suitability of vehicles lacks attention. It is not subject to mileage, as well as the development of technical inspection is not progressing as fast as technology and intelligent systems of new vehicles. That reults in under-utilization of advanced technology. They underlined the great importance of skid resistance on the road and choosing appropriate tires.
Target of halving the victims and seriously injured in road accidents will not be achieved without the appropriate environment, which do not directly affect the road users. Experts have all agreed that this area must be explored more deeply and be more intensely involved in discussions on road safety.
An important guests, a European Commission representative Frédéric Versini and the representative of European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) Graziella Jost, were extremely impressed over the topich heard on 1st International Professional Conference ProRoad Safety 2011. They stressed that the conference is a key milestone for the bright future of improving road safety in Slovenia and reaching main targets and transfering key knowledge abroad.
